April Fools Watch: 2008

Gmail Custom Time
To start the night off (it’s only 12:20am) I have discovered a dead link in Gmail that definitely was not there earlier today.  The link reads “Gmail Custom Time”, but when clicked takes me to a 404 error page.  Check it out below.  Could this be some new Gmail feature, or the first of what will likely be many tech based April Fools jokes this year?

Astronomy Picture of the Day
You will have to check this one out for yourselves at the link below.  Apparently a new space robot has taken over and come up with quite a clever name for itself!

ThinkGeek
ThinkGeek.com never fails to disappoint.  This year they will be offering some amazing new items, such as a USB pregnancy test, or a Betamax to HD-DVD converter.  I was always told as a kid, never to pee on an electric fence.  You would think that would count for electric computer components as well!  ;-)

CollegeHumor
It’s a horrible day for mankind.  Apparently collegehumor.com has sold out to some 17 year old girl (who has over 4 million friends!)  That’s uncalled for.

Woot
Woot has decided to kick off April with a Woot-Off!  But wait…was there not just a woot-off this past weekend?  Well, the answer is yes, there was; however, this is a special woot-off, full of power!  Check out woot.com to find out for yourself what kind of amazing deals are available!  For those who don’t get to it on time, you can check out an image from the woot-off, below!

YouTube
Hop on over to YouTube and have a look at any one of their currently featured videos!  They’ll certainly leave you Rolling.  Warning: Upon clicking on any of the currently featured video’s you will promptly be taken to a video of Rick Astley singing and dancing to “Never Gonna Give You Up”.  This video may cause mental unrest.

TechConsumer
In an unprecedented interview, Digg.com founder Kevin Rose and CEO Jay Adelson admit that Digg is really just a game usually favoring “snarky” one or two line posts over interesting original content!  Be sure the check out the full interview below.

Google
Aside from the new Gmail feature of being able to create your own custom time, Google has unveiled a new ‘project’: Virgle.  This project, which has been co-designed by Google and Virgin is touted as “the first permanent human colony on Mars”!  Check out the project at the link below.  Maybe you can be part of this grand adventure, which will launch in 2014!

Telegraph.co.uk
You always hear the saying “when pigs fly”.  Well, how about when penguins fly?  According to a video that will be screened today by BBC, penguins have been found in the antarctic with the amazing ability to take flight and find warmer territory.  These penguins are not just flying to slightly warmer terrains, however, they are flying to the rainforest’s of the Amazon!  Talk about a change of habitat!  Check out the in-flight video below.
