1-800-GOOG-411

For those of you who have not heard about this, Google has recently started  its own 411 service and according to TechCrunch has now started promoting it through road side banner advertising.  Google’s 411 service is different from some that you may be familiar with in that you do NOT have to pay for it.  As you can see, the number (1-800-466-4411) is a toll free number.  I have tried this new service on multiple occasions and each time it has been much quicker and more accurate than taking the time to look a number or address up in the phone book.

The service is pretty simple and straightforward.  You dial the number above and a friendly automated voice will ask you which city and state you are currently in.  From here, it will ask you what business you would like to look up.  The system will run a search for the business and present you with the top results that it has found.  After selecting the appropriate business from the results, you can ask for more details and even have a text message sent right to your cell phone containing the phone number and address of the business you are trying to contact.  The entire system is completely driven by voice automation and recognition.  So, the next time you need to look up that pizza place down the street, try this out!  I think you will be pretty impressed with its accuracy.
