Every so often I travel over to Yahoo! Answers to see what people are asking in the computer/technology section. I cannot even count how many times I see high school kids asking how they can get around the school filters to access websites like Myspace, Xanga, or Facebook. Having worked for a school district for the past two summer, I know that this is a big problem for both students and school tech support. So what’s the best way to gain access to these sites while you are at school? The answer is obvious, go sit down with your schools technology department or school board and have a serious discussion with them regarding why you and other students think you should have access to these sites. If you can present a valid argument, there should be no reason for them to continue blocking these websites. Sure, I could give you lists upon lists of proxy sites that will allow you to slip past the schools web blockers, but that is useless because in the end these sites will just end up banned as well. It is really a waste of time to even bother trying to find new proxy sites because for the most part, the good ones will already be blocked and you will probably end up doing more damage to your system by flipping through web pages trying to find new ones (you could use that as an argument, by the way). If you really think you should be able to access these sites and feel that you have a legimate reason (which you probably don’t), than go talk to the technology department or school board, and maybe you will be able to convince them to open them back up. Good Luck!
