This has been around for a little while now, but I figured I’d throw a post in here about it, for any of you that haven’t heard about it. For some reason it doesn’t get as much publicity as pay sites such as Napster or Itunes but the website www.ruckus.com offers free music for any student with a .edu email address. In my experiance they have had almost every song that i’ve ever searched for and the music is encoded at 192kbps, so it’s decent quality. The only real downfall to Ruckus is that the music you download comes in a DRM protected WMA file which doesnt allow you to burn or copy, but hey, if all you’re doing is playing music over your computers stereo system, it’s a great solution! If you are looking to be able to copy the songs to your mp3 player or a CD, then Ruckus probably isn’t for you.
